Key points
- VerifiedX released Mainnet 9.0.0 on Nov. 5, introducing recovery Vaults with customizable settlement delays for vBTC and native assets 1.
- Consensus rules allow senders to pull back outgoing transfers to a designated recovery address before final settlement 1.
- The rollout follows an Oct. 29 exploit of Binance involving the theft of over 18,000 unfreezable Bitcoin attributed to TraderTraitor 1.
Layer-1 blockchain VerifiedX deployed its Mainnet 9.0.0 upgrade on Nov. 5, launching an updated recovery Vault system designed to curb theft of its Bitcoin-pegged asset, vBTC 1. The protocol allows tokenholders to configure a custom time delay before outgoing transactions finalize, during which users can cancel a transfer and redirect the funds to a pre-assigned recovery address 1.
According to VerifiedX, the cancellation mechanism is enforced directly by network consensus rules rather than a centralized custodian 1. The delayed-settlement architecture also extends to the network's native $VFX token and other minted assets, alongside options for time-locked transfers scheduled for specific dates 1. Jay Pollak, head of strategy at VerifiedX, stated in a release that the digital asset industry has traditionally assumed that security measures end once an attacker gains transfer authority, a design choice he argued is inadequate for securing trillions of dollars in value 1.
Direct Bitcoin Verification
The update follows the Oct. 29 exploit of Binance, in which attackers drained approximately $6.4 billion across 10 blockchains, according to TRM Labs 1. While stablecoin issuers frozen roughly $2.7 billion, more than 18,000 $BTC taken during the incident could not be frozen, with TRM Labs attributing the activity to North Korea's TraderTraitor group 1. At the time of writing, Bitcoin traded at $79,551.
VerifiedX stated that its mainnet architecture requires six confirmations on the Bitcoin network before processing linked actions 1. Rather than depending on third-party oracles or off-chain attestations, VerifiedX validators operate individual Bitcoin light clients to inspect block headers and verify proof-of-work state directly from Bitcoin UTXOs 1.
