Verify crypto news while you browse
One click on any crypto article opens a side panel with our source-verified coverage of the story, the primary documents behind it, live prices and a token safety check for contract addresses on the page. On demand, it compares the page’s claims with the sources and labels each one.

What it shows on any crypto page
Verified context
The Basis Desk story on the same event, with “what happened” and “why it matters”, its sources and the story thread it belongs to.
The primary documents
Regulator releases, court filings, company and protocol posts, GitHub — the original documents the page links to, listed in one place.
Claim check
Up to five key claims of the page — or the sentence you selected — compared with our coverage and the primary documents, with the evidence quoted.
Token safety
Contract addresses on the page get a one-click scam check: honeypot behaviour, taxes, owner privileges, proxies (GoPlus Security data).
How the labels work
We never call a page or its author false. The panel says what the sources say and lets you judge.
- Matches verified coverage
A Basis Desk article or a primary document states the same fact — same numbers, dates and actors.
- Differs from a source
A source says something different about the same fact. The panel quotes it so you can judge.
- Not in sources we track
Nothing we track addresses it. Not a verdict that it is false.
- Opinion or prediction
Forecasts, price targets and opinions — useful to see, impossible to verify.
Privacy in one paragraph
The extension reads a page only when you ask — a click, the shortcut or the right-click menu. It then sends the page address, title and text to Basis Desk to find matching coverage and sources; claim checks are processed by an AI model (Google Gemini) and contract addresses by GoPlus Security. We keep results in a short-lived cache, never sell data, show no ads and keep no browsing history. Full privacy policy.
Questions
- Is Basis Desk Verify free?
- Yes. Every feature is free and works without an account. Claim checks have a generous daily limit per browser so the service stays free for everyone.
- Does it read every page I visit?
- No. It reads a page only when you click the Basis Desk icon, press Alt+Shift+V or choose “Verify with Basis Desk” on selected text. It has no access to your browsing history and does nothing in the background.
- What does “Not in sources we track” mean?
- That neither our verified coverage nor the primary documents the page links to address the claim. It is not a judgement that the claim is false — only that we could not check it against sources.
- Which sites does it work on?
- Any regular web page: crypto news sites, blogs, exchange announcements, X/Twitter posts opened in a tab, explorers and DEX pages (contract addresses are detected for a token safety check). Browser pages, the Chrome Web Store and PDFs cannot be read by extensions.
- Where do the facts come from?
- From Basis Desk articles, which are drafted from primary sources (regulators, courts, filings, protocol and company posts, on-chain data) and checked against them before publication, and from the primary documents linked on the page you are reading. Token signals come from GoPlus Security.
- Which languages are supported?
- The extension speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish, Russian, Vietnamese and Indonesian, and writes claim notes in your browser’s language.
