At a glance

What happened
Basis Desk shipped a reader update: At a glance summaries on new stories, 21 topic hubs, three daily pages and a rule-based gainers and losers list.
Why it matters
You can get the gist of a story in seconds, follow one regulator or company in one place, and check claims against the original documents.
Who is affected
Everyone who reads Basis Desk: on the site, in the Daily Brief, on social media, or through AI assistants that cite our stories.
What's next
Ten new explainers publish over the coming days, and every new news story and analysis now carries the summary box.

Key points

  • Every new story now opens with an At a glance box: what happened, why it matters, who is affected, what comes next, and the primary source.
  • Twenty-one topic hubs follow the regulators, companies and themes we cover most, each with our latest stories and the original documents.
  • New daily pages cover the crypto market, regulation and security, plus a gainers and losers list that says exactly how it is built.

Basis Desk is a crypto newsroom built on primary sources: an AI system reads regulators, courts, exchanges, protocol teams and on-chain data, drafts each story, checks it against those documents and publishes it with the sources attached. This week we shipped a set of changes that make the site faster to read and easier to check. Here is what is new and where to find it.

Every story now starts with the answer

Each new news story and analysis opens with an At a glance box: what happened, why it matters, who is affected and what comes next, with a direct link to the primary source. For regulatory stories it also shows the status (proposed, open consultation, final, in effect, guidance, enforcement action or court ruling) and, when there is one, the date a rule takes effect.

The box goes through the same source check as the rest of the story. It is also marked up for search engines and voice assistants, so the short answer they pick up is the one we checked.

21 topic hubs, with the original documents

Topics now has a page for each regulator, law, company and theme we cover most:

Each hub starts with a short, neutral description of what the entity is, then lists our latest coverage and, where available, the primary documents those stories cite: regulator releases, filings, official posts. Related explainers and markets sit alongside. Stories link to their hubs through the Topics row under the key points.

Three daily pages

  • **Crypto market today**: Bitcoin, Ether and the total market, the day's biggest gainers and losers, the top stories, large on-chain transfers and links to recent daily closes. The page is assembled automatically from market data and our stories, with no AI-written summary.
  • **Regulation today**: the day's regulatory and policy stories with their status labels, plus the past week.
  • **Security today**: hacks, exploits and post-mortems, next to our token safety checker for anyone about to buy.

Gainers and losers, with the method stated

Top gainers and losers ranks 24-hour moves among assets with at least $50 million in market value and $5 million in daily trading volume. Stablecoins and wrapped or liquid-staking tokens are left out because they track another asset. The list refreshes every 10 minutes, and the same method note now appears on Markets.

Ten new explainers

Our explainer queue now starts with ten new guides: Bitcoin's UTXO model and its mempool, optimistic versus zero-knowledge rollups, USDT versus USDC, MiCA's stablecoin rules and its reverse-solicitation test, SEC custody rules, tokenized securities, impermanent loss, and how U.S. law separates securities from commodities. They publish over the coming days and join the 67 guides already in Learn.
